News and gossip with Roisin Dwyer.
Delicious treats in large quantities is what Easter is all about but here we are concerned with the aural rather than the edible variety. So here follows some suggestions for a soundtrack to your scoffing:
The rebel county provides two mouthwatering delights in the form of releases from Stanley Super 800 and Silver Trail. SS800 release the single ‘Gatecrashing’ in April from their second full-length album Louder And Clearer which is due in May. The track will be available to download from www.downloadmusic.ie and the band have just completed the video with Rory Cobbe of No Disco fame.
‘One Kiss” is the debut single from Cork-based Silver Trail. The group formed in 2005 and name James Taylor, Naughty By Nature and Red Hot Chilli Peppers as their key influences. They have already begun work on the second single due in summer and you can expect a debut long-player this autumn.
Further east in Limerick Fox Jaw Bounty Hunters have just released their debut EP Fox Jaw Bounty Hunters on Mangaboy Records. The band includes ex-members of Funbobby and Knapweed and has been causing quite a stir of late, the explosive launch show in The Underground is followed by a slew of nationwide dates. Check hotpress.com for details.
Up and coming Dubliners Dirty Epics, fronted by Sarah Jane Wai O’Flynn, are releasing their debut single ‘Demolition Man” (not to be confused with Police choon of the same name) on April 14 on their own label SCAR Record. They describe the song as “a furious pop rock love song for the 21st century.” Having just supported The Rapture in Tripod the band’s star is definitely in the ascent. Get your mits on a copy of the new release in Tower Records, Wicklow St., Dublin, Zhivago Records, Galway and also on www.downloadmusic.ie and itunes. Catch them live on April 11 in Crawdaddy, at their Tower instore on April 14 at 2pm and as support to Delorentos at their album launch show in the Temple bar Music Centre on April 26.

Fellow Dubliners Star Turtle have just released their second EP Nightmares And Videogames at a packed show in Crawdaddy on April 3. The offering was produced by Q and recorded at Qube Analogue Studios.
And finally some news from Dublin-based Eric Eckhart who will feature on TG4’s Ardan in April (Sundays, 8.30pm) as part of a series of special programmes focusing on acoustic performances. Other luminaries such as Cowboy X and Declan O’Rourke will be taking part. Eric also supports These Charming Men in the Temple Bar Music Centre on April 28 and co-headlines in Crawdaddy with Hot Press fave Shaz Oye on May 11. Eric has been recording with his band since the start of the year and hopes to get out on the road soon to showcase the new material – will keep you posted!
