French wrote the song at the Sounds from a Safe Harbour festival in 2023, and was released in January.
The family and friends of Eoin French, also known as Talos, have chosen ‘We Didn’t Know We Were Ready’ as the song of Daffodil Day, in partnership with the Irish Cancer Society.
Set for March 28, Daffodil Day aims to raise funds for cancer support and research across Ireland. French died of cancer in August of last year at age 36. The track, which also features Ólafur Arnalds, Niamh Regan and Ye Vagabonds, was released in January.
“Partnering with the Irish Cancer Society to share Eoin’s music feels like the right thing to do,” said his brother Brían French. “Cancer has touched so many families, ours included, and we’ve seen up close the care and support that’s needed. We miss Eoin every day. But to know that his music might offer some comfort, or connection, to others, it means a lot.”
Over the course of his career, French released three albums, including Wild Alee, Far Out Dust and Dear Chaos.
"I never really want to sound like I’m pontificating, but finding what you love is a bonus,” he told Hot Press in October of 2022. “Like if everything disappears in the morning and you’re just left with a keyboard or a guitar would you still play it? If the answer is yes, then it doesn’t really matter what happens around it. What you’re going to get from it is growth, and probably a deep, more intricate understanding of yourself. Then you’ll be able to better who you are".
