Ladydoll bag the JD Set title
Henrietta Game’s lush alt folk arrangements ushered in a night of first-rate eclectic entertainment at the 2010 JD Set final.
Featuring a beguiling blend of cello, violin, xylophone and guitar the four-piece set a high standard. The bewitching vocal harmonies on fan fave ‘Berlin’ was arguably the highlight.
Energetic indie pop in the form of Tuam’s The Coonics was next on the agenda. The outfit’s uptempo angular offerings included recent radio hit ‘Skinny Jeans’, which lured the first dancers of the night to the floor.
Cork’s Lady Doll then took to the stage with their infectious brand of dark indie rock, all carnivalesque mayhem and baroque stylings. Next up were Dubliners Saccade whose impassioned, tight, high-energy set comprised sundry treats, with current single ‘See How They Fly’ garnering a notably enthusiastic response.
Sixteen Layers closed the main section of the evening with a slot culled primarily from last year’s lauded ‘I Am No One’. Slick rock anthems ahoy! These guys know how to wow a crowd, and their smooth performance had more than a few young ladies swooning.
Whilst the judges deliberated, last year’s winners We Cut Corners wowed the crowd – see these guys soon if you haven’t already.
After much debate with his fellow judges Tim Burgess announced Lady Doll the 2010 winner. Catch them live or get your mitts on latest opus The Knife Thrower And His Wife to see why!
