The Killers receive two Guinness World Records for 'Mr Brightside'
The song spent almost 8 years in the UK singles chart.
The Killers have bagged two Guinness World records for their 2004 single 'Mr Brightside'.
The anthemic track claimed a pair of record holding titles after spending an unrivalled amount of time in the UK charts.
With a total of 416 weeks as of 4 July 2024, 'Mr Brightside' has the longest stay on UK singles chart by a group.
The single also garnered a second record for the most cumulative weeks on UK singles chart (one song), also for 416 weeks.
The band, who recently opened their Rebel Diamonds Tour with three nights in Dublin's 3Arena said that they don't tire of performing the hit.
Frontman Brandon Flowers told Guinness World Records that: “It’s infectious still to us, I know some people can’t wrap their head around it but you’ll see the response [when you see it live].
“It’s tough not to be touched by it or be excited by it and there’s going to be people tonight who’ve never seen it live, there’ll be some people who’ve seen it 45 times.
“And we just don’t get tired of it.”
Drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr added: “It’s a highly reciprocal thing that happens and we enjoy the ride just as much as they do.”
In spite of its enormous success, 'Mr Brightside' has never reached the coveted spot of UK no.1, having debuted at it's peak position of no.10 on June 5 2004.
The Official Charts Company confirmed earlier this year that the song was the UK’s biggest single to never reach No.1, having sold more than 1 million copies and streamed over 520 million times.
The Nevada rockers have obliterated the previous record for most cumulative weeks on UK singles chart (one song) title was held by Frank Sinatra, for 'My Way' which spent a total of 122 weeks in the chart between 1969 and 1972 and again when it was re-released in 1994.
As it currently stands, 'Mr Brightside' looks likely to hold its record for a long time as it has a has a clear lead over the songs to claim the second and third place spots on the list.
Lewis Capaldi's 'Someone You Loved' and Ed Sheeran's 'Perfect' have both spent around 200 weeks in the chart, but have a very long way to go before they can rival The Killers’ hit.
