L. Mayland, the solo project of The Last Dinner Party’s Lizzie Mayland, has announced their debut EP The Slow Fire Of Sleep, set for release on May 9. Alongside the announcement, they’ve released the EP’s first single, 'Lighthouse'.
Speaking about the track, Lizzie said: “‘Lighthouse’ is about being in a healthy romantic relationship for the first time in my life and the fear of losing that.
"I storyboarded an idea for the video, then I heard Cal [McIntyre] wanted to direct it and I was so pleased. He captured the elements which were the most important to me before lending his own aesthetic talents.”
The Slow Fire Of Sleep features five songs that present a more personal and stripped-back side of Mayland’s songwriting.
The title track and EP closer was written in response to feelings of hopelessness about the global environmental crisis. The song builds from delicate fingerpicking into a powerful, voice-free outro.

“It was important to me that the end of the song didn't feature my voice at all,” Lizzie explains. “I wanted an apocalyptic feeling, like a texture, that Will and Immy [producers Will Lister and Imogen Williams] captured perfectly.”
The Slow Fire Of Sleep is a reflective collection that explores vulnerability, isolation, and self-discovery with honesty and clarity. It addresses themes such as a young person grappling with gender identity, a student shaped by rural life now living in a city, and an adult navigating a long-distance relationship.
