DUBLIN PUNKS PACK PLENTY OF PUNCH
This is the second album in as many years from a band that’s clearly keen to make up for lost time (singer/guitarist Blitzy Fitz initially enjoyed local notoriety with The Strougers during the first wave of Irish punk in ‘77 before entering into semi-retirement for 30-plus years).
The sound of old heads and young hearts, with a raw-as-ropes production that adds to the old-school charm, there’s a distinct Social Distortion meets early Undertones vibe from the get-go. Kicking off with ‘Shoot The Lights’, the opening lines “No more fucking bullshit/ We’re sick and tired of it” assure us that the album’s title is definitely apt.
Politicised (‘Sirens’), pop-laced (‘Lisa’), and sometimes playful (‘Vegus’, which pokes fun at Las Vegas-era Elvis), all 10 tracks pack plenty of punch. But, for me, ‘Be Someone’, which sounds like a lost relative of the Misfits’ ‘Hybrid Moments’, is the highlight of this entertaining stroll down memory lane.
OUT NOVEMBER 29.
