Following the release of their eagerly anticipated second album, Gigi's Recovery, last Friday, Hot Press cover stars The Murder Capital are now in the final push for major chart success at Ireland – having already been projected to break into the Top 10 in the UK.

According to the midweek preview of the UK's Official Album Chart, the Irish band are on course to score a career-best – with their new album expected to debut on the chart at No.7 tomorrow. Their acclaimed debut, When I Have Fears, peaked at No.18 following its release in 2019.

The news comes in the wake of a phenomenal international reaction to Gigi's Recovery – with the album scoring a prestigious five-star review from The Guardian.

At home, meanwhile, they're up against huge competition to claim the top spot on the Official Irish Albums Chart. Many are hoping that Gigi's Recovery will do one better than When I Have Fears, which debuted in 2019 at No.2 on the chart.

In a 9-star review for Hot Press, Will Russell described The Murder Capital's new direction as "a giant leap from a band who were already on fire."

"Never mind an evolution from [When I Have Fears], on single ‘A Thousand Lives’ alone, the band traverse wonderfully diverse sonic terrain," the review states. "Across Diarmuid Brennan’s slick drum and bass percussion, James McGovern channels a Jim Morrison LA Woman-era accusatory love poem to the city at night, the canvas flecked with wonderful guitar licks and ingenious effects – utterly enthralling."
