After the release of his first solo album this summer, Malachy Tuohy of the Riptide Movement will perform at the Smock Alley Theatre in Dublin.
Striking out solo, the Irish singer-songwriter Malachy Tuohy of The Riptide Movement brings to life his new album I Cross This Universe.
As a member of the Riptide Movement, Tuohy has become an acclaimed and well-renowned artist. The Gold selling 2013 album Getting Through was a choice nominated and Number 1. The band's single 'All Works Out' was not only a radio hit, chosen as Discover Ireland's Synch's and NBC Today Show USA Sync's theme song, but was another choice nominated piece of music.
The Covid-born album will drop this summer, on June 16th. Produced by Gavin Glass, the ten marvellous tracks are not only "bold, profound, and resonant," but are the perfect way to explore Tuohy's intimate vocals, personal sound, and deep lyrics.

A moving, auditory journey and inspired by the idea of parallel universes, I Cross This Universe focuses on love songs, tributes, and eulogies. The title track especially sets the tone invoking the idea of love and lost souls reuniting across space and time. It features a string arrangement by Beth McNinch.
The tributes on the record are about people dear to the Irish artist's heart, including 'Jarlath' and 'A Song For Suzie' ft Albert Lee, which honours Tuohy's late uncle Jarlath and the late songwriter Tony Colton respectively.
Other tracks, like the already released 'Most of the Time,' featuring Moya Brennan, are complex reflections of self-expression and the uncertainty that clouds it when it is entrenched in isolation.
Helping out on the album is Clannad's Moya Brennan, who not only sings on 'Most of the Time' but also sings alongside Rachel Grace on 'Requiem' and 'Jarlath.' Paul 'Binzer' Brennan of the Frames covers all of the ten tracks' drums and Beth McNinch covers strings. Finally, Albert Lee lends his legendary guitar skills for 'A Song for Suzie.'
Overall, I Cross This Universe is expected to be a beautiful collection of music touching on the soft charms of human existence, even if it means facing their impermanence. A tour will follow the album's drop, complete with an Irish tour date at the Smock Alley Theatre in Dublin on June 28th.
