The metal Irish trad band The Scratch have today issued a statement on X after the cancellation of their Cork Opera House gig last Sunday due to 'safety concerns'.
Cork Opera House released a statement on Tuesday regarding an early end to The Scratch's gig due to safety concerns with a barrier. Fans have expressed their disappointment with how the gig was handled in response to the post.
In an Instragram post, Cork Opera House stated that they had to 'make the difficult decision to finish the show earlier than anticipated due to a barrier becoming compromised during the performance'.

People who attended the gig were quick to voice their dismay in the comments alongside the Instagram post. One fan said: "When will we be issued with refunds? The Opera House took no responsibility and forced the band to abandon the gig."

Another wrote: "It was the Opera house's fault for creating a health and safety risk and ruining/cutting short what was going to be a great gig."
The Scratch took to X, in a since-deleted post, to apologise to attendees at the gig.
They posted a photo of the front barrier, saying: "The venue H&S claimed the front barrier was 'fit for purpose' but as you can see clearly was not and became a genuine safety concern."
The band also promised Cork fans that they would be back “as soon as possible” to make it up to them.
Today the Dublin band The Scratch followed up on this deleted post and once again took to X saying they were "working on booking and announcing a new show before the end of the year".

The band concluded that although they would not be issuing refunds for the cut-short gig, they would work with the promoter of the new gig to ensure that tickets would be as cheap as possible, saying that the group would forgo ticket profits and only pay the venue and necessary crew.
