Following the recent arrival of their live album, Couldn't Leave Our Gaffs, on streaming services, The Scratch are set to return this week with a brand new single ‘Another Round’ – out on Friday, March 11, following by a music video on March 16.
The new track finds them continuing to blur the boundaries between their metal roots and their love of old Irish storytelling.
“The song is at its core a drinking song," comments The Scratch's Jordan O'Leary. "I don’t think it’s necessarily for or against excessive alcohol consumption, and all that comes with it, but more of an honest portrayal of my own experience with that way of life. It was written back during the first lockdown in 2020. I was craving the warm cozy embrace of my favourite Dublin snug, Bowes bar on Fleet Street.
"I wrote the song while stuck sitting in a gaff in Palmerstown, Dublin dreaming of the countless nights of craic we used to have in that pub," he continues. "Most of the references heard in the song are directly related to those nights. The chatter and manic atmosphere of a busy pub, the ever growing rowdiness as the night progresses and the rounds keep coming, the couple of lads in the group that are thrown out for reaching a belligerent state of patriotic pride and singing unsolicited rebel songs at the top of their lungs, and the perpetual and dizzying nature of all of these things combined. The songs structure is essentially a three and a half minute build up that grows more and more tense as it progresses, until eventually it reaches the release and payoff that repeats until its end.”
'Another Round' is out on March 11. You can pre-save the single here. Take a look at the single artwork below:
