The trio have also released two new tracks off the record.
Today, The Smile have revealed details of their new album Cutouts, which will be released on October 4th via XL Recordings. The band have released two new tracks from the album, ‘Foreign Spies’ and ‘Zero Sum’. ‘Zero Sum’ comes with an accompanying video, directed by Weirdcore, an audiovisual artist. Earlier this month, the band released album tracks ‘Don’t Get Me Started’ and ‘The Slip’ via a limited edition 2-track 12-inch single at record shops globally.
During their tour of UK & Ireland in March, the trio, consisting of Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner debuted various songs from Cutouts. Produced by Sam Petts-Davies, Cutouts features 10 new tracks, and is the band’s third studio album. It follows Wall of Eyes, released in January, as well as A Light For Attracting Attention, the band’s 2022 debut album. The new album was recorded during the same period of time as Wall Of Eyes, in Oxford and at Abbey Road Studios.
Cutouts features string arrangements by the London Contemporary Orchestra, and the album art was created by Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke during the recording process.
Succeeding the highly praised Wall Of Eyes, Cutouts is the second studio album release from the trio in under a year. Dubbed as the “Best Album of the Year so far”, Wall of Eyes charted at #2 in Ireland and #3 on the UK album charts upon its release, receiving acclaim from Pitchfork, The Needle Drop, Consequence, Brooklyn Vegan, Treblezine and Spin.
