The message appeared to be "Nothing to see here, folks."
One of the more bizzare music stories in recent memory was the interview with Albert Hammond, the father of Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr., in which the clearly bursting-with-pride dad announced that the Strokes were recording a new album with Rick Rubin.
The bubble may have been burst however, with Hammond Jr. taking to Twitter to counter the claims:
Sorry everyone we are not in the studio recording

Forgive Albert Sr he got prematurely excited. A lot of unknowns and nothing worth speaking about at this time.

We met and played a few music ideas for Rick to feel out a vibe but even a theoretical album plan would be years away, if at all.

Frontman Julian Casablancas followed, backing up Hammond's tweets.

Despite these attempts to stifle the rumour mill, Strokes fans are now even more suspicious:
bright/dark side is the name of new strokes album.
