This festive season The Sugar Club will help you wind down on CD
They’ve already brought us the Phantom Pub Quiz, annual screenings of Spinal Tap, the city's best cocktails and a host of both comedy and musical talent; now Dublin’s Sugar Club are set to retain their mantle as one of the city’s most generous and user-friendly venues.
For the festive season, the venue are set to press a limited number of ‘The Sugar Club Wind Down’ CD, an ingenious compilation which will be distributed to mailing list subscribers. It’s a wind-down CD with a difference, however; gone are the usual esoteric/electro suspects, and instead you will find the best of smoky late night jazz, blues, rock’n’roll, and lucid indie. The Bees and Cousteau are nestled happily alongside Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles. Other artists on the CD include, rather interestingly, Angelo Badlamenti, Zero 7, The Beta Bands, Terry Callier, Hem and, naturally, Bing Crosby.
Over the years, The Sugar Club have distributed CDs mixed by DJ Aidan Kavanagh, yet the club’s Santa-in-residence Oisin Davis decided that there was such a thing as too much partying for one person, and that a change of direction was needed. "The previous CDs contained the liveliest choices of uptempo Sugar Club anthems, so that everybody could recreate their weekend atmosphere anytime they wanted, yet ‘The Wind Down’ CD’s soft melodies and easy going rhythms will help you out with the excesses from the night before."

Simply put, it’s the gentlest and most pleasant of hangover remedies, and the perfect soundtrack to a lazy weekend - a sunny holiday for the ears, and Alka Seltzer with a big fry up for the soul.
