The War On Drugs have announced their Irish return with an outdoor show at The Summer Series at Trinity College Dublin on June 27th 2023
The Philadelphia outfit, formed in 2005, have steadily emerged as one of this century’s great rock and roll synthesists, making records that wrestle a fractured past into a unified and engrossing present. The band consists of Adam Granduciel (vocals, guitar), David Hartley (bass guitar), Robbie Bennett (keyboards), Charlie Hall (drums), Jon Natchez (saxophone, keyboards), Anthony LaMarca (guitar) and Eliza Hardy Jones (keyboards).
Founded by close collaborators Adam Granduciel and Kurt Vile, The War on Drugs released their debut studio album, Wagonwheel Blues, in 2008. Vile departed shortly after its release to focus on his solo career. The band's second studio album Slave Ambient was released in 2011 to favourable reviews and a lengthy tour.
The band's third album, Lost in the Dream, was released in 2014 following extensive touring and a period of loneliness and clinical depression for primary songwriter Granduciel. The album was released to widespread critical acclaim and increased exposure.
The rockers' album A Deeper Understanding earned them the 2018 Grammy for Best Rock Album and were nominated for a BRIT Award for International Group of the Year.
2020 saw the release of LIVE DRUGS featuring live interpretations of songs throughout their career, including off their breakthrough, Lost In The Dream.

Co-produced by Granduciel and Shawn Everett, their fifth studio album, I Don’t Live Here Anymore landed on numerous 2021 best albums of the year lists and garnered a second BRIT Award nomination. The band headlined Madison Square Garden in support of its release.
"Even when the throwback sounds feel almost too familiar, there’s a charisma and a power at the heart of the approach that’s difficult to resist," Hot Press' Lucy O'Toole writes of The War On Drugs' latest release. "Just like Granduciel’s ‘80s icons – who were capable of pulling something oddly triumphant out of the surrounding despair – I Don’t Live Here Anymore finds The War On Drugs expertly straddling the line between joyful release and bittersweet nostalgia."
