It shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that will.i.am named his album after a Twitter hashtag, given that his parents named him after the musings of a dementia-suffering Yoda, but don’t be too quick to judge the Black Eyed Peas rapper and star of BBC’s The Voice – #willpower is certainly a less ludicrous title than his second choice, Black Einstein. Incidentally, Will’s participation in the godawful judges’ performances on The Voice confirmed what I had already suspected after three Oxegen performances, that he cannot do the following things particularly well; sing, rap, move about on stage. As songs like John Legend’s ‘Ordinary People’, Usher’s ‘OMG’, Britney’s ‘Big Fat Bass’, his own ‘Heartbreaker’ and a hundred more prove, Will’s strength is in writing and producing, which is why I find it so earthshakingly irritating that ‘’This Is Love’, a song which leaves most of the heavy lifting to Dutch poster Eva Simons, is such a massive, charmless dud.
