Thornton Pianos is an Irish family-run business that has been supplying new and reconditioned pianos nationwide for over 50 years.
Like the rest of world, Thornton Pianos are delighted to see the back of 2020 – even if 2021 has started with somewhat of a whimper! Of course, with Brexit having come into effect on January 1, businesses across many different industries in the Republic of Ireland are faced with major changes.
So how will Brexit impact Thornton Pianos, and what have they got planned for 2021?
The Superior Sessions
The Irish family-run business have revealed that their acclaimed The Superior Sessions are set to continue in 2021, after enjoying great success over recent months. Thornton Pianos have been providing a performance space for some of the country's best emerging musicians since September, and released The Superior Sessions album on Bandcamp before Christmas, in aid of Minding Creative Minds.
Keep an eye on The Superior Sessions throughout 2021, as there are some very exciting projects to come – including hotly tipped singer-songwriter Martin McDonnell, who is due to record on February 21.
The Impact of Brexit

Brexit is set to present some issues around importing certain stock from the UK in the months ahead. Thornton Pianos have put provisions in place to minimise the impact of this on customers – but some sought-after pianos may see a rise in price. With the UK leaving the EU, there will unfortunately be an increase in the costs of purchasing and handling these pianos, particularly impacting reconditioned brands, as a result of 'country of origin' rules.
Despite the challenges of 2021, Thornton Pianos "wish all those involved in the music industry a prosperous 2021."
"We are looking forward to working with more fantastic artists and pianists throughout the year," they note. "And as always, our restoration team have extensive knowledge on all brands of piano, and will be happy to help you choose the perfect piano for your needs, regardless of any level of Covid-related restrictions."
