In addition to music from the six A New Local Hero national finalists – and a performance from the Amhrán na Laoch winner – you can look forward to a special set from one of the country's brightest stars, Tolü Makay, at The Academy next week...
Following the release of her empowering new single, 'My Eyes Are Open', Tolü Makay is set to treat fans to a special guest performance at the A New Local Hero live finale event – coming to The Academy in Dublin on Tuesday, October 15.
The soulful alt-pop sensation's set will cap off a night of music from the six national finalists in the A New Local Hero talent search, as well as a performance from the winner of the Irish-language song competition Amhrán na Laoch. The night will also see one rising star crowned the overall A New Local Hero winner, and one of the 20 regional finalists score the Wildcard Award, as voted for by the public.
Tolü established herself as one of Ireland's most phenomenal, genre-blending talents back in 2020, with the release of her acclaimed Being EP – before sparking a viral moment a few months later, with her cover of The Saw Doctors' 'N17'. She's continued to explore thrilling new directions in her work ever since – with her latest single 'My Eyes Are Open' exploring themes of "empowerment, courage, vulnerability, and strength."
Other highlights of her remarkable career include singing for President Michael D. Higgins, appearing in Lewis Capaldi and Niall Horan's Irish road-trip documentary, opening for Disclosure, and gracing prestigious states worldwide.

She's currently working on her eagerly anticipated debut album, which promises to expand on her exploration of social issues, personal growth and self-empowerment.
Tolü's special guest slot will also offer a tantalising taste of what to expect from her upcoming headline shows at Whelan's in Dublin (November 21) and Esker Arts in Tullamore (November 29).
A New Local Hero is one of the key elements of Irish Music Month – an initiative of Hot Press and the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland, launched in 2021, and funded by Coimisiún na Meán. This year's edition was launched with a special Garden Party Concert at Áras an Uachtaráin.
The A New Local Hero national finalists include Callum Agnew (LMFM), Bobbi Arlo (FM104), Asophonics (KCLR FM), Mia Black (Shannonside / Northern Sound), Jessica Brett (Tipp FM) and Projective (Corks 96FM) – with all acts set to perform on the night.
Stayed tuned for further news about the performance from the Amhrán na Laoch winner – who will be revealed very soon...
