Love/Hates's Nidge gives an in-depth interview in the Hot Press Annual.
He's dominated Irish screens in 2013 as the unforgettable Nidge in Love/Hate and been named our 'Actor Of The Year' – now, as Vaughan-Lawlor explains in the Hot Press Annual, he's looking ahead to the next project.
"We’re doing this three-part mini-series about Charlie Haughey,” the Dubliner reveals. “We’ve been doing it for
the last couple of months, but we finally finish up
this week.”
Called Citizen Charlie, the €3.7 million budget mini-series stars former fellow Love/Hate-er Aidan Gillen as the late Taoiseach, while Tom is playing legendary Fianna Fail spin doctor PJ Mara.
“I met Mara as part of my research. I just asked him some questions about the period and he was very generous with his time. He gave me great insight into that period of history, which was really valuable. I’m a history fan, but I wish I was more actively involved in politics. I only remember Haughey laterally, so it’s been amazing to go back and read about the intensity of the time, especially in the early ‘80s, so it’s been a real joy to research.”
In the Annual, in stores now, Vaughan-Lawlor also talks about dividing his time between screen and stage, preparation for the next series of Love/Hate and the public response to Nidge.
