The rapper was sentenced to 10 years in prison under the Los Angeles Superior Court after his conviction in December.
The rapper Tory Lanez has been sentenced to ten years in prison for shooting fellow musician Megan Thee Stallion, real name Megan Pete.
Lanez was convicted of three felonies in December 2022: carrying a concealed gun in a vehicle; assault with a semiautomatic handgun; and discharging a firearm in a negligent manner. At the time of conviction, he faced up to 22 years and eight months, however, under Californian law he would not be forced to serve his entire sentence.
In July 2020, while Lanez and Pete were at a party at Kylie Jenner's house, the pair got into an argument. After Megan left the SUV they were in, Lanez pulled out his firearm and shot Megan in the foot. She was hospitalized for her injuries and was unable to walk for many days following.
A statement from Megan Thee Stallion was read at the hearing: “Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace. Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same."
Lanez still maintains his innocence, pleading with the trial judge not to send him to prison on the trial's second day.

Statements were given in support of Lanez, speaking to his role as a father and his history of charitable giving. They insisted that the rapper was a good person who had made a mistake. Friend and fellow rapper, Iggy Azalea, wrote a letter seeking a sentence for Lanez that was “transformative, not life-destroying,” later clarifying it was part of her prison reform advocacy.
Despite these testimonies, Judge David Herriford of the Los Angeles Superior Court gave the rapper 10 years, just under the 13 years prosecutors had asked for. “Sometimes good people do bad things,” he said during the final conviction. “Actions have consequences, and there are no winners in this case.”
