"With the landscape in mind, this bus journey is a great meditation of the various topics of life," the collective say of the Bus Éireann route that inspired the album.
Trá Pháidín's 2023 album An 424 is set to be released on vinyl for the first time, on May 23, as an expanded edition featuring three extra tracks.
An 424 – named after a Co. Galway bus route – was mixed by John 'Spud' Murphy, known for his work with the likes of Lankum, Black Midi, Anna B Savage, and Junior Brother.
Speaking about the album, Trá Pháidín have noted that the bus route that inspired it offers "a unique perspective of the 'complicated identity' of the Gaels as the bus travels from the Gaeltacht into anglophone Ireland, or maybe going the other way."
"If you are someone who grew up or lives in this region, you have a particular understanding at this stage of how complicated Gaelic psyche is and the kind of spectrum of identity along bóthar Choise Fharraige," they continue. "With the landscape in mind, this bus journey is a great meditation of the various topics of life..."
With their own unique blend of traditional Irish music, jazz, post-rock and polished chaos, the Irish collective (who were previously tipped as one of Hot Press's 'Hot For 2024' acts) have clocked up support slots for the likes of John Francis Flynn, Squid, and Katie Kim.
On June 5, Trá Pháidín are set to play The Victoria in London, followed by a run of gigs across Europe. The band are expected to have vinyl copies of the new expanded edition of An 424 available at the upcoming shows.
