Irish artist Meryl Streek has just unveiled his latest gut-punching track.
Punk artist Meryl Streek has released a hard-hitting, emotional ode to his late uncle in the form of ‘Paddy.’
Opening with soft, nostalgic music, Streek jumps onto the melody with harsh juxtaposition declaring: “And this song goes out to my uncle, Paddy, R.I.P. / He spent everyday reading, over the odd glass of red wine / He could literally tell you anything you wanted to know, on any topic brought up.”
An unflinching tale of the life and views of his uncle Paddy, Streek isn’t afraid to speak about his uncle’s choice not to work, to learn instead, and how he “knew full well how backwards this place was ran.”
As the emotive tune builds, Streek passionately repeats “and you'll always be missed and you'll always be loved.”
The new single is off the artists upcoming album Songs For The Deceased due to release on October 25, which saw the Irish artist enter Darklands Audio with producer Dan Doherty (Fontaines D.C.).

Streek invited guest musicians to collaborate on the new album. Benefits’ Kingsley Hall provides spoken word to the album’s ‘Interlude’, Cal Graham from UK punks The Chisel appears on ‘Dogs’ and influential guitarist Oliver Ackermann delivers a feedback soaked outro for the song ‘Murder’.
“This is a collection of stories about betrayal, murder, injustice, and corruption around my hometown of Dublin.” explains Streek. “It’s not just happening in Ireland, it’s happening around the world and we’re supposed to just take it lying down?”
The punk musician will be playing at 2000 Trees Festival in UK July 10-13, Rebellion festival 1-4 August, and Left Of The Field Rotterdam 17-19 October.
