For today’s Track of the Day we have a newly released Brand New Friend track ‘I Was An Astronaut’.
‘I Was An Astronaut’ comes from the band’s 2018 NI Music Prize-nominated album Seatbelts For Aeroplanes, and continues to showcase the cheerful, upbeat sound that BNF has become renowned for.
The track is accompanied by a video shot on Downhill Beach near the band’s native town of Castlerock in Northern Ireland (better known to some as Dragonstone from HBO’s Game of Thrones). Much like the track, the video exemplifies the band’s joyful outlook. It features the band’s brother and sister frontpersons, Taylor and Lauren Johnson, happily singing by the shore, as a crowd of people gradual gather around them for a singalong.
In the last 12 months, this young and energetic Derry-based band have captured the attention of hundreds of fans, as well as many influential music industry movers and shakers, thanks to their their bright-eyed, enthusiastic sound. Following their busiest year to date, Brand New Friend continue onwards and upwards with the new single and a massive UK tour. They’ll kick off the year with a 3-night residency at Belfast’s The American Bar on 24th, 25th and 26th January 2019, of which 2 of the days are already sold out.
