It's a welcome return to releasing new material from the melodic brothers.
In terms of releasing new material, it's been a quiet time in the intervening period for Dublin brothers Richie and Jamie Martin since they released their debut album Rhythm of Dawn under their stage name of Cry Monster Cry back in 2015.
The subject of widely positive feedback, the album saw them experiment artistically and thematically around their traditional folk foundations, and extensive touring subsequently followed.
In the shape of brand new single 'Citadel', Cry Monster Cry have finally announced their return with an effort that holds true to the elements brought them success with Rhythm of Dawn. Produced by Tommy McLaughlin, the song is reflective of the wilds of Donegal that it was recorded in, and demonstrates a maturity and an introspective feel that testifies to the brothers' added experience since their debut.
“A citadel is a stronghold into which people could go for shelter during a battle or in times of crisis" explains Richie. "So the idea for the song came out of that”.
Cry Monster Cry will be following the release of the single with a return to headline Upstairs at Whelan's for what promises to be an intimate show on Saturday December 1st. Tickets are on sale now and priced at €15 from Eventbrite.
