The Galway alt-pop artist has released the music video for her playful new single, 'Mad'.
Building a growing fanbase over the last few years with her unique brand of synth, indie and alt-pop, Irish artist LAOISE has become one of Ireland's most exciting young talents. She's now shared the vibrant music video for 'Mad', the lead single from her EP of the same name.
The track showcases a more audacious side to the 22-year-old, depicting a moment of self-awareness through her uniquely quirky songwriting. With irresistible pop hooks and gorgeous vocals, as well as sweeping, cinematic synths, 'Mad' powerfully showcases LAOISE as a deeply creative artist on the cusp of major success.
In a statement, LAOISE reflects on the making of the music video for 'Mad':
“The 'Mad' music video was so much fun to make - we worked with a lot of the same people that made the 'Again' music video with us and more. It was really cool to be on set as the average age was probably 21?! So it was most people's first time on a music video set, you could feel the fresh, bright energy coming from everyone. I guess the video itself showcases somewhat of a stereotypical narrative on what's expected of a woman to be successful, almost as if they're created in a lab, and that maybe such a consideration wouldn't be made for a guy. It's playful and crazy at the same time, and smashing up the set felt like the same cathartic energy I felt when writing 'Mad'.”
LAOISE, who has already been praised by the likes of Hot Press, UK Independent, Clash and NPR, released her four-track Mad EP earlier this month.
Look out for LAOISE at a number of festivals this summer, including Main Stage at Body&Soul, Indiependence and Lollapalooza Berlin - with more to be announced. You can also find her supporting Ruth-Anne at Whelan's on April 27 and Cyprus Avenue on April 28.
