Maverick Sabre tackles inner city pressure with his gorgeous new single and video.
Back with his first new track for three years, 'Drifting' is the first single to come from the singer's upcoming third album.
And what a return.
Self-produced by Sabre himself, the song feels like a soulful anthem for misplaced youth, while the video, filmed by Hector Dockerill, is an intense exploration of masculinity, inertia and inner city living.
Speaking with Fader, Maverick Sabre said: “I wrote 'Drifting' to numerous different visuals that I was inspired by from Kendrick Lamar's Kahlil Joseph documentary through to La Haine. That's why it's has this cinematic feel within the music before we even created the film."
The video, which features a cameo appearance from Paul Alwright, was shot in Ballymun. Sabre continued: "I was brought up in Ireland and Irish cinema has always grabbed me, so we wanted to carry that on through and make sure it was captured as beautifully as possible. The aim is to tell as many different untold Irish stories within a grander film. 'Drifting' is scene one.”
