The latest from an innovative new Irish project.
Side 4 Collective is a group of musicians brought together by renowned drummer Dave Hingert (Kila/Josh Ritter). Dave’s percussion forms a basis around which invited guests are inspired to write - ‘like throwing paint on canvas’ as Pete Townsend put it when he heard about the project.
The third single, ‘Cold Front’ featuring Carol Keogh, is taken from forthcoming album We Burn Bright and is a very topical response to tumultuous world events. The message is: “Did you vote for reckless change ‘cause anything is better than more of the same?”
Of her experience collaborating with Side 4 Collective Carol says: “It has been interesting to watch the work and the working relationships unfold. Between them (Dave Hingerty and engineer Anthony Gibney) they have gathered an impressively eclectic bunch of collaborators to contribute to the Side 4 project.”
Already available are first single ‘The Flood’ featuring Paul Noonan of Bell-X1 and Adam Marcello, and second single ‘Sand and Sails’ featuring Farah Elle. The long-player will feature more contributions, including those from from Josh Ritter, Cathal Coughlan (Microdisney/Fatima Mansions), Adrian Crowley, Robbie Malone (David Gray), Joe Chester and many more.

Carol continues: “There is so much melody and mood implicit in human percussion, I could have written to just about all of the drum tracks Dave and Anthony recorded. The choices I made were gut-led and in some sense serendipitous – I had bits of things already that could be expanded upon and sculpted to fit. This is what makes collaboration so vibrant and fascinating. Always so much more than the sum of it’s parts.”
