A great song for a great cause.
Today's Track of the Day is one that seeks to further shine a light on one of the major social issues in Ireland today in the shape of homelessness. In aid of charity Focus Ireland, SON (aka Susan O'Neill) has released a remix of her song ‘ When the Light Shines Down’.
All download and stream proceeds of the song will go to the efforts of Focus Ireland, while it has also been released with an accompanying short film by award-winning filmmakers Paul Duane & Patrick Jordan.
The original track is written from the perspective of a person living on the streets, and the remix has come courtesy of Peter Vogelaar, a bass player and producer from Waterford who outside of releasing albums in his own right has also remixed songs for other Irish acts such as King Kong Company and Wyvern Lingo.
Ennis native SON was formerly a backing singer with Propeller Palms and King Kong Company, who embarked on her own solo excursions in 2016 with her album Found Myself Lost (which features the original version of 'When The Light Shines Down'), though she still tours with the latter as well as Sharon Shannon.

The husky-voiced singer-songwriter came into her own on the project, which was a bluesy effort that has listeners anticipating what's next. With this remix she's taken the noble step of attempting to focus further attention on the homeless crisis. You can support her efforts by listening to the track below, or by watching the video here.
