Stray Planets, an emerging musical collective have released their new genre bending track, 'Glowing Rectangles', a bass-y and completely qualified banger.
Stray Planets have released their latest single, 'Glowing Rectangles', marking their second release as a new music collective helmed by songwriter John Butler.
Butler has been a fixture of the Irish music scene for many years having collaborated with the likes of Cathy Davey, Badhands, Naoise Roo, and Ger Griffin of Rollerskate Skinny.
Butler has taken his own collaborative songwriting capabilities and teamed up with both Rian Trench and Dara Kiely to bring their new indie rock outfit Stray Planets to life, and have held no punches in creating a bass heavy, sleazy rock track with drums that could kill.
'Glowing Rectangles', leans into Clash likes guitars but with an added burst of 21st century pop and loose, almost apathetic vocals.
Fans of LCD Soundsystem will lap up the new track, 'Glowing Triangles' which Butler says “is written from the point of view of someone, namely a child, who sees no downside to tablets/smartphones. It’s an unapologetic celebration of just how wonderfully addictive and brilliant they are.”

Which in an aged raked with existential angst and a luddite phobia of tech, it's nice to hear a dirty feel good track that celebrates just how miraculous it is that you can order a take out, buya new lawn mower, play chess, text a friend and translate a document in a mere matter of clicks.
Opening with the sound of a foreign woman on a phone call, the song immediately kicks off into a playful and pulsating rock song, kicking the crap out of any January blues.
'Glowing Rectangles' features Dara Kiely on lead vocal, Sinead McConville on backing vocals, and cameo vocal from Trinity Blu Johnson.
Stray Planets’ upcoming debut album - which was arranged and produced by Rian Trench and recorded by Robert “Scan” Watson in the Meadow, Wicklow - is planning to twist "the last six decades of studio-centric pop leanings into strange and kaleidoscopic places" and if 'Glowing Rectangles' is anything to go by, be prepared for a treat.
The single will be release on streaming platforms on Friday 12 January kicking off an exciting new year for the rock project.
