The Limerick-bred singer-songwriter shares his first single this year, which navigates the head-fog that comes from anxiety, learning to look at life through rose-tinted glasses, and how to break outside of your own mind.
Limerick native Aaron Hackett released his first offering of 2022 yesterday, in the form of the evocative, moving single ‘Rose Shades.’ With ever-relatable lyricism and a knack for alt pop melody, Hackett returns to prove his status as one of the nation’s proud, rising acts.
Of the track’s purpose, Hackett shares that ‘Rose Shades’ is “about dealing with anxious, paranoid thoughts. It's about having your head constantly in a fog, constantly overthinking the smallest interactions, and creating made up arguments/hardships in your head. It's about trying to manage the unnecessary frustrations built from having a lack of control. It's almost like I’m speaking a mantra, that we often have to look at life through rose-tinted glasses in order to make it through difficult situations.”
His newest single release follows the artist’s widely beloved 2021 album Public Interest, which arrived after his debut in 2018 with EP Tides. From feelings of confusion, desperation and desire to the more adult themes of mental health, there seems to be no territory Hackett might leave untouched.

The 26-year-old singer-songwriter began recording music at age fifteen, releasing several singles before entering RTÉ’s television programme The Hit. Throughout his time on the show, Hackett proved himself enough to earn the prize of musical artist Duke Special’s selection of his track '1969’ to record and release, a song which went on to become a charting single.
Hackett spent the last few years earning his first class honours MA in Songwriting from the University of Limerick, now returning in full form. Self-producing and recording all of his own music from his bedroom studio, Hackett rides the range of an alternative sound — swinging from indie to pop, but always remaining fixed in an emotional, experience-based perspective.
