‘Contender‘ is taken from Aislinn’s upcoming EP, set for release on November 18th.
Rising Irish singer-songwriter Aislinn Logan has shared her beautiful new single ‘Contender’, co-produced by the artist alongside Johnny Oakley and Brian Kelly.
‘Contender’ is a classic pop offering. The synth intro features a nod to Aislinn’s musical heroes New Order, before the song’s soaring, dreamy melody and rhythms kick in.
“’Contender’ sprang from some fairly dark subject matter but ended up sounding quite sunny," Aislinn explains. "It was a little while into writing that I realised that was deliberate. I wanted it to offer a moment of relief to the listener. It’s the wanting to pick someone you care about up, relating to them but feeling quite helpless to do anything useful too. It's daring someone to back themselves - their actual self, and stop running.”
The eclectic EP features previous single ‘Certain Days’. With soaring, dreamy melody and metronomic rhythm, 'Contender' is a sunny song about pain.
"It talks to themes of addiction in some people who're close to me, but more broadly is an acceptance anthem about owning your full self," Logan affirms. Aislinn celebrated the release with a single launch at Lion Records, Hackney.
