Rhythmic vocals over a synth bed give the track the feeling of a musical séance.
Featuring eerie vocals from HAVVK, Birthday Problem delivers a track shrouded in gloom with the sinister sounding ‘Same Face’.
The song’s crawling tempo and orchestra of low electronic sounds give the tune a thematic quality, while creating an intensely dark atmosphere that is felt throughout the track.
‘Same Face’ marks the fifth track from Birthday Problem, a collaborative project from Matt Harris and Rocky O’Reilly.
It follows the release of ‘Great divide’ in May, which featured vocals from Paul Connolly of The Wood Burning Savages.
Released by VETA music, an artist-led label co-founded by Harris, Birthday Problem asserts that ‘Same Face’ will not be their final release of the year.
With a bed of synth is peppered with percussion, a slow but regular drum beat over the rhythmic vocals gives the track the feeling of a musical séance.

Delivering sermon-like vocals, HAVVK’s vocals are modulated throughout the track, ranging from their natural pitch to an artificially modified sound, giving a unique range to the spoken lyrics.
This, coupled with the building music around repetition of “It’s the same face and he never leaves” contributes to the song’s ethereal and somewhat sinister sound, easily comparable to the likes of MGMT and Aphex Twin.
