The genre-bending new single celebrates chameleon’s new record CALL ME TWICE PT.1, out today.
An eerie offering from Dublin alternative singer songwriter chameleon, ‘Made You Look’ is the first single from his latest album CALL ME TWICE PT.1.
Filled with reverbed string lines and carefully-crafted backing vocals, ‘Made You Look’ is the perfect oxymoronic track – both controlled and unruly, high-spirited and dark.
On the single, chameleon takes inspiration from Thom York and his anarchic vocal performance. The production is a minimalistic and electronic blend of harmonised singing and guitar, introducing bass and drums halfway through – the pace picks up until the multiple vocal tracks become almost suffocating.
Speaking of the track, chameleon said: “‘Made You Look’ was the last song I wrote for the project. To me, it is an amalgamation of all of the other songs. This track sees the protagonist enter a tongue-in-cheek self-appraisal of his actions toward the women in his life. He is consistently distant, emotionally numb and dismissive of his partners.
“The first half of the song displays this toxicity from a hard shell before getting glimpses in the second half of a soft interior. He also reveals how the identity of the girl doesn’t matter, they’re all just manifestations of the same desire for the protagonist to fill a void, fix something or reach this ‘ideal utopia’ that doesn’t exist.

“He really doesn’t know when he is loving again, not because he doesn’t want to, but because he fears he might never again know how".
To celebrate the release of his new record, chameleon will be playing a headline show at Dublin’s Workman's Cellar tomorrow night. Tickets are on sale here.
