In her new single 'Berlin', Erika Severyns dissects the repercussions of growing up with expectations and struggling with mental health.
Singer-songwriter Erika Severyns' gorgeous new single is an introspective coming of age folk offering titled 'Berlin’.
The new track opens with powerful folk-like guitar chords. Severyns’ poetic lyrics tell a story of a young woman coming to terms with the harsh reality of coming of age and getting older.
Severyns says, “I wrote ‘Berlin’ after a day of watching Grey’s Anatomy on the couch and crying my eyes out. I had a lot of expectations for myself as a young adult and none of them were coming true.”
This realisation is a message that resonates with many young people today because goals that once felt attainable, now feel further and further out of reach.
Severyns continues by saying that ‘Berlin’ is, “a hopeful yet wistful folk song with lyrics that are honest and relatable, especially for the 20-somethings dealing with the rising cost of living, who are finding their dreams and expectations increasingly unattainable.”

Her first single ‘Ireland’ from December of 2023, was well received with mentions in The Thin Air, Golden Plec, and Buzz.ie. ‘Berlin’ will surely follow suit. The track ends with a harmonious ballad from Severyns whose control over her vocals equates to an astounding sonic piece.
