Belfast outfit Esmeralda Road have put the fun back in funk with their brand new upbeat single ‘Until I’m Gone’ just in time for sunshine season.
Rinsing stars of Belfast Esmeralda Road have once again gone to show that there is no fear of the Irish groove scene dying out with their brand new single, 'Until I'm Gone'.
The song is an explosion of syncopated charged energy, and oozes elements of jazz joined by a whole lot of groove.
Yet, a grittier subject matter accompanies these pulsing beats: the paradoxes that come with relationships.
Frontman and lyricist Charlie Magill explains that the tune explores contradictions of relationships and false expectations.
"The verses portray a character who is resilient to accept the roles and responsibilities of their relationship, while the song's hook culminates in this character essentially begging for the other person to do this for them".

Just over three minutes long, the track opens with a steady, full-bodied tempo before diving into a deeper, dream-like sound accompanied by the lyrical storytelling.
'Until I'm Gone' is joined by a retro-style music video recorded by the band members on an 8mm Handycam. Taking the shape of a home movie completed by a string of faded nostalgic videography, the flick depicts the day in the life of life on tour, showing glimpses of shared beds in small hotels, rolling papers strewn over the floor and scoring luke-warm green room Guinness's.
Esmeralda Road, formerly known as Moonboot, is completed by frontman Charlie Magill, drummer Aodhan Moran, keyboardist Josh Vance, bassist Calvin Wells, guitarist Ben Murray, saxophonist Josh Baker and trumpeter Tony Cowan.
Originally formed as a three-piece outfit in 2021 during their last days of secondary school, the band has all but multiplied in both its members and its sound, which now includes an unconventional but fitting horn section.
'Until I'm Gone' showcases the band's classic influences, such as King Krule, and dives into worlds of post-punk steadiness with their raw storytelling ability. Still, it's the deep sounds of crooked hot jazz that leave listeners with a lasting impression, hungry to hit reply one more time.
