The Irish singer-songwriter continues the delicate tales from her latest EP, I Hate Everyone (but I don’t mind you).
London-based, Irish-raised musician Etaoin released a brand new single last Friday in the form of 'If You Called'.
Having just released her second EP, I Hate Everyone (but I don't mind you), Etaoin's unique style blends pop melodies with deep acoustic songwriting that explores tales from her past.
Strikingly honest as always, the emerging musician's new single is sung as a lyrical apology alongside sombre plucked guitar strings. Etaoin's first music video ever showcases the poignant story unfolding in the stunning night-time setting, outlining the singer's regret at a past romance.
After soaring to 10 million streams as well as seeing praise from big name tastemakers, 'If You Called' is proof that Etaoin isn't slowing down after her recent EP release (out now via Made Records).
sing her songwriting as a way of conveying her experiences, no matter how painful, this new story of heartache is one of her most personal retellings of a failed boy meets girl yet.

"After my first heartbreak I made a pact with myself to never let myself care that much about anyone ever again, but then I met this boy from Ireland," Etaoin explains of the single. "We used to drive through the Irish countryside and walk the beaches and talk for hours in his car, it was literally like shit straight out of a Hannah Montana movie."
"He was so patient and kind and everything I should have needed, but I was so hurt and scared that I was too scared to trust any boy and I didn’t want to commit," the singer-songwriter added. "This caused a lot of issues and nine months in we called it quits. I realised after it all went down that I really put him through hell by pushing him away and acting like I didn’t care all the time.”
The new music video for the single, Etaoin’s first ever, is where we really see how much the backstory means to her. Etaoin leans into her songwriting’s brutal, sobering nature to create a makeup-smeared aesthetic that matches the drama.
"The idea behind the video was really zooming in on that line 'I know damn well I broke him', and telling a real story from that.”
