Dublin band Five to Two are set to release their new album Talk Soon on February 17th, 2023.
Irish jazz trio Five to Two have shared the second single from their upcoming sophomore album in the form of 'Song 50,000'.
Featuring rapper/producer jarjarjr, the follow up to 'Moretartar!' has been released via Softboy Records (Kojaque, Brien, Kean Kavanagh, Celia Tiab). Using down-tempo drum beat and mellow piano chords, jarjarjr's declaration that “this is what it sounds like when a soul flies” emphasises the slick power of the single.
Building in anticipation, the beautiful jazz elements pair gorgeously with the Cork rapper's flow: "You blow the wheels off the spoke tryna chase us."
The three-piece's Talk Soon is due to land on February 17th this year, with a gig at Bello Bar in Dublin on February 18th to celebrate the project. Tickets go on sale Monday, 16th January.
After many past nods towards hip-hop, Matthew Breen, Jonah Byrne and Finn Mac Anna are exploring the genre closer. Over the creeping, stalking instrumental, jarjarjr builds an ecclesiastical ode to hip-hop itself and its power to lift and elevate.
The new track arrives alongside a black-and-white Tim Shearwood-shot music video, directed by Jonah and Finn.

Speaking on the track, Five to Two say: "'Song 50,000" is another track that came out of the same improv session as ‘Moretartar!’. We wanted this track to be really atmospheric. We had a great time working with jarjarjr, he captured the energy brilliantly and we absolutely loved his flow and lyrics." They add that the video came about when “Finn came up with the idea for a visual for the track based on jarjarjr's lyrics "50,000 lines deep, and the wheels keep spinning." We chose two contrasting scenes for the shots to emphasise the different sections in the track.”
The name of their sophomore album, Talk Soon, comes from the title track that Matt wrote out and sent in the post to Jonah together with a handwritten letter.
The album is a celebration of being able to see each other and play music together again after the three of them graduated. Keeping up friendships becomes harder, and Talk Soon captures that release of reconnection.
