The latest single from the Kerry singer-songwriter is a slow waltz of crystalline keys and heavy-on-the-heart vocals. Listen below.
Lorraine Nash is back with a new contemplative single for your Bank Holiday Monday.
‘Steel Hearts’ is a wondrous torch song of silver-toned strings, bell-like piano and a rhythm section that strides with waltzy box-step drums. Teeming with romance and resplendence, the track situates Nash in an introspective pose, exploring a deeply-ingrained penchant for pleasing others and a desire to break away from it.
“As a self-identified people pleaser”, she says, “I wrote this song reflecting on how it's a trait that seems deeply ingrained in Irish culture. Steel Hearts is about how constantly putting others before ourselves doesn't always serve us well. It's about finding balance—doing right by yourself while still being mindful of others”.
Listening to ‘Steel Hearts’ feels like watching Nash pull metres of ribbon out of her mouth for three and a half minutes. If you’re alone and going through something, there’s a good chance that it’ll rouse all sorts of emotions.
With this new release, Nash cements herself as one of the most compelling singer-songwriters in Ireland, drawing from a well of influences, including Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch and Lisa Hannigan.
