"As a whole, the song is built out of frustration that has accumulated over the past 30 years of being a woman in public," says M(h)aol singer-drummer Constance Keane of the band's latest number.
Post-punk outfit M(h)aol - Constance Keane (aka Fears), Zoë Greenway, Jamie Hyland and Sean Nolan - follow-up their 2023 critically-acclaimed debut Attachment Styles with an electrifying anthem ‘Pursuit.’
‘Pursuit’ marks M(h)aol’s first output since reconfiguring as a four-piece, and signing to Merge Records, and sees Constance Keane on lead vocals for the first time. Alongside the track’s release is a visualiser, directed by Zoë Greenway, that boasts a My Bloody Valentine-esque pulp textures and optics.
“‘Pursuit’ is about the experience of being followed home,” says Keane. “Sadly, I think it’s something most women have experienced, and something that makes you change your behaviour on a very practical level. It first happened to me when I was 12, and it stayed with me for a long time.
The experience of choosing your outfit based on how quickly it could help you get out of a dangerous situation is something I don’t even notice I’m doing sometimes, and that in itself scares me. What am I doing choosing shoes I know I can run fast in, rather than the ones that would go better with my outfit?”

Trembling with sonic hysteria, the track coils around its lyric tension, with singer/drummer Keane narrating a walk home after a night out while the band pushes the pace to a fever pitch.
