The latest release from the Irish trio is a hard-hitting and powerful feminist anthem. Listen below.
Irish trio M(h)aol return with their new single ‘Snare’, a compelling feminist post-punk track of heavy and distortrant guitar chords and intricate rhythmic sections.
Both contemplative and hard-hitting, the track marks the follow-up of their 2021 debut EP Gender Studies, as well as their 2023 full-length album Attachment Styles – a record which received a glistening 8/10 from Hot Press.
“‘Snare’ is about countless conversations I’ve had since my first drum lesson on my ninth birthday about how bizarre it is that I play that instrument, or how I should be doing it differently,” recalls lead vocalist and drummer Constance Keane.
“The idea of society gendering an inanimate object like a drum kit, when it’s something that brings me so much joy and release, has always frustrated me hugely, and I thought it was time to sing about it.”
With this new exhilarating release, where gritty instrumentation meets rich, almost spoken vocal lines, before a cathartic and explosive bridge, M(h)aol place themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the Irish punk scene.
