The chaotic new single 'The Oil In It' by Mob Wife is their first track since their award-nominated debut album Eat With Your Eyes
The Belfast DIY indie-punk trio Mob Wife drops their highly-anticipated latest single 'The Oil In It.'
Composed of vocalist and guitarist Leckey, bassist and producer Carl Small, and drummer Wilson Davidson, the trio is ready and raring to go forward with new ventures after their 2022 debut album Eat With Your Eyes was nominated for the NI Music Prize.
"'The Oil In It' was written sitting in front of my laptop working from home looking at news articles about how I'll never be able to afford anything that previous generations had at my age while my work was commenting on my progression," Leckley said.
"It's a song about the stunting of progression with an optimism for the future but anger towards those in power.”

“Musically we wanted to cut the fat and have more finesse musically writing a simple
song that's interesting in its execution,” added Leckey. “Bands like Dismemberment Plan and Blur helped us get into that head space."
The music video shows the band performing in the dark as, chaotically, off-screen people mess with the musicians, flicking Leckley and throwing paint at the trio.
The "masterfully stripped-back visual accompaniment" is from musician and videographer Brendan Seamus. Additional production was done by Darragh Donnelly and Billy Woods at Post Carpentry.
The indie-rock trio are launching the single today at the Ulster Sports Club in Belfast, with support from Cloakroom Q. The show will have a first performance by a secret to-be-seen band. Doors open at 7 PM GMT.
