With vibrant shifts and hypnotic breakdowns, the Cork outfit’s debut single is a strikingly mature offering.
Irish neo-soul collective, and recent finalists for A New Local Hero, Projective have shared their mesmeric debut track, ‘Running’.
The group’s loose-limbed beats are matched to some delectable songwriting moments, unveiling a soulful twist at every turn.
Here, the Cork 7-piece wield their crystalline neo-soul and jazz-fusion chops to capture a strikingly full-fledged sound for the band’s debut release.
From the outset, ‘Running’ unfastens a delicate, hypnotic soundscape where layered vocal harmonies underscore a feathery, gauze-like foundation alongside a radiant ensemble: subtle finger-picked guitar, rolling synths and a glowing rhythm section.
The track then takes an unexpected, electrifying turn, shifting to a double-time tempo, inspired by the propulsions of drum-and-bass. An undeniably catchy melody coasts over the choral backing, further elevated by ambitious, layered guitar lines that drive the track forward with a sense of momentum.

“‘Running’ is one of the first songs we wrote around the time that the band started,” the band say. We wanted to write about the feeling of not being able to slow your mind down when it’s caught up in thinking negatively, be that about a relationship or another worrying situation in your life.
“We jammed the chorus idea and the hook fell into place soon after. The song has so many different vibes and sections but it all felt right in the moment, so we decided to run with it”.
Tune in to the radiant track below.
