Ahead of releasing his highly-anticipated album Halo, due in September, Garvey enlists Irish pop-rock contemporaries Picture This on a booming, sprightly track.
Following the release of two singles, ‘Perfect In My Eyes’ and ‘Free Like The Ocean,’ Rea Garvey enlists Irish rockers Picture This to create a vibrant new offering.
‘Somewhere Close to Heaven’ blends pop rock and electronic sensibilities with gleaming production choices and an emphatic lyrical delivery. The end product is a surefire radio hit, integrating The Chainsmokers’ EDM pop-drop with yarling ‘00s post-grunge rock, popularised by the likes of Nickelback and Creed.
“I’ve watched Picture This from the wings since Day #1! After they joined me on tour in Germany, I was even more a fan than before and wanted to get us into studio and make music,” Garvey says of the collaboration. “We wrote together trying to capture our Irish roots and our inborn love of music.
“The song ‘Somewhere Close To Heaven’ is a diary entry of every Irish person abroad. We love to sing, dance and celebrate life and in doing so we are home again if only in our hearts and minds.”
Picture This have long established themselves as one of Ireland’s leading pop-rock bands, known for their compelling lyricism and animating performances. Their music has touched all corners of the world, amassing 450 million total streams, several sold-out stadium gigs - including a five-night stint at Dublin’s 3Arena - and a number of festival headline slots, such as Electric Picnic.

Rea Garvey is most known as frontman for Reamonn, the German rock group, which he founded after leaving his hometown of Tralee and emigrating to Germany. He has also collaborated with the likes of Nelly Furtado, Mary J. Blige and Paul van Dyk, among others.
When it comes to his own music, Garvey’s gravelly voice has been met with considerable acclaim, and ‘Somewhere Close To Heaven’ makes no exception. On the track, the singer’s vocal presence is commanding, deep and booming, with a knack for grasping at the lower notes of his register.
Rea Garvey will release his eagerly-awaited record Halo on 13th September. You can listen to the energetic new single, ‘Somewhere Close To Heaven,’ from the upcoming LP below.
