Ever-evolving singer-songwriter Sam Segurado is back with his sophomore album, featuring the eponymous title track 'The Remainder.'
Irish-Portuguese singer-songwriter Sam Segurado is back with his sophomore album, The Remainder, a captivating blend of electro-indie-rock that holds the songsmith's folk roots at its core. Built around the record’s title track, Segurado explores his own personal struggles while also contemplating the turbulence of ongoing world crises.
Reminiscent of a superhero’s moniker, the record’s title embodies both “that which is left behind” and “that which is still to come,” a dual meaning that perfectly encapsulates the album’s essence.
The LP’s title track, a poignant folktronica ballad driven by a pulsing beat and gentle guitar pattern, toys with the idea that “the remainder” is what survives hardship, the parts of us that are strong enough to withstand every obstacle.
“This song was the catalyst for the record,” Segurado said of the song. “Recovering from the ending of one relationship and the early pining of what was to become another. That riff was like a lullaby, and the song grew from there. At its core it's a breakup song, and a song for patience, and a song about hope, and confusion, and rebirth. It encapsulates all of the themes of the album, and so it took its title.”
Segurado’s music is a testament to the constant movement of his childhood, born in Portugal to an Irish mother and raised in a rotating string of cities. The singer’s guitar, poems, lyrics and stories quickly became an anchor as he navigated new people and places, turning his music into the home that he never found in a house.
