Sarah Crean‘s previous single ‘02:00AM‘ now has over 100,000 streams on Spotify.
Dublin singer-songwriter/producer Sarah Crean has released her latest single in the form of 'You Have No Idea' today.
Created alongside producer Adam O’Leary, the gentle track opens with warm guitar notes and voice memos from fellow musician Hannah Horan. Injecting the personal and private into the public sphere is a bold move, but Crean has something special.
"I don't wanna be here when you're around / your girlfriend won't save you / She won't help you up / They won't let her in / 'Cause you wouldn't let her out," Crean sings, her rich vocals sounding better than ever. "I started crying as soon as I walked in the door," a voice memo describes in the gut-wrenching single, which peels back the layers of loyalty and hurt caused by someone close. Sarah chooses her words carefully, full of yearning and often pleading for more clarify, respect and fidelity in a relationship.
Describing a person who has "hurt someone's daughter", the track has an element of protectiveness for a friend, and for her past self who wanted to see the best in someone.
The dreamlike indie-pop track revolves around an incredibly transparent telling of losing trust in someone you love and seeking closure after that loss, influenced mainly by Japanese Breakfast. The self-written song has all the emotion, diaristic tendencies and poignancy of Lizzy McAlpine and the fuzzy rock soundscapes that soar like Phoebe Bridgers' 'I Know The End'.
After the release of her latest single ‘02:00AM', Crean wanted to share a track that was her most honest and raw yet. Previous releases of hers have had confessional tinges but were somewhat masked by upbeat arrangements and instrumentations. 'You Have No Idea' dives beneath the surface of her feelings, allowing room for a more frayed and hurt narration to come through. The lyrics read as Crean warning her past self of an imminent betrayal, piecing together a beautiful storyline that many will surely relate to.

"This is definitely the most nervous I’ve been about a track’s release purely because of how vulnerable it is," Sarah Crean says of the stunning five-minute number. "Adding details like the old voice memos in and hearing them alongside the lyrics and the song’s progression instrumentally from start to finish, it feels like every bit of upset I felt in that moment and even the chaos of that time has been so perfectly replicated."
