The track marks Scott Mac's second single from his upcoming EP 'A 21st Century Romance'.
Rising Belfast singer-songwriter Scott Mac has combined pop-punk and '80s pop on brand new single 'They Don't Really Know You (Like I Do)'.
Following on from the release of his last single 'On Your Mind', Scott Mac has returned with the second single from his upcoming EP, A 21st Century Romance.
Showing consistent evolution in his songwriting process, Mac looks to incorporate decades-spanning influences into his singer-songwriter roots. Blending '80s pop sensibilities and rhythms with pop-punk guitar tones and hooks, the lyrical leanings of 'They Don't Really Know You (Like I Do)' are teaming with anxious insecurity.
“I’ve always wanted to write an '80s pop sounding track, and I felt that this EP was my chance. I had the image of me running around on stage with my pink guitar in a pink suit while writing this track, and I feel like this is reflected in the sound," Scott Mac says of the single.
"I was listening to a lot of '80s pop and rock during the writing process, and with the return of the '80s pop sound in modern day music I wanted to write a song that was fun and embodied the overall recurring themes of the record. I took a lot of influence from The 1975 and David Bowie for the imagery and sounds in this song. I’ve always been a fan of artists who can bring you into a different world through their music, and I wanted to try and do this with TDRKY.

"My guitarist Adam heard it for the first time and said ‘wow, this guitar line is very Van Halen’ which made me laugh. The lockdown had a massive impact on my writing for this EP, and this song in particular I was able to write down my insecurities and thoughts of having a relationship during the pandemic.”
Mac recently announced a headline show in Belfast's Black Box, which has since sold out.
A 21st Century Romance will be released on September 24th, 2021.
