Track of the Day: sourfruit - 'Red Velvet'

sourfruit beautifully capture the brewing storm of a downward spiral with their gritty, entrancing single 'Red Velvet'. The group demonstrate their musical prowess and talent for storytelling with the genre-bending alt-pop track. Atmospheric, James Blake-esque bass drives it forward as the group switch between soft harmonies and dark hip hop. It exists in what feels like three acts, documenting helplessness, the search for control and eventually letting go. The final minute is incredible, a combination of the sounds that have been built up throughout the prior two minutes before descending into a satisfying, velvety outro.

'Red Velvet' is the third single from their upcoming debut full-length Between Sky and Sea, due this summer. The alt-pop group released their debut EP Phtalo Blue in 2019 to much acclaim, amassing over 500k streams on Spotify within one year.
