Confidently labelled the ‘UK queens of riot,’ Venus Grrrls return in their gorgeously grotesque and gossamer fashion, braving topics most are afraid to discuss in intimate conversation, let alone on international platforms.
The alt-rock Leeds-based band Venus Grrrls is set to release their newest single ‘Liar Liar,’ the girl group’s most recent single. Their previous single ‘Lidocaine,’ released earlier this year, highlighted frontwoman GK’s recovery from Leukaemia. The single was featured on Hot Press, earned 2 Spotify editorial covers (Shockwave and Fresh Finds UK & IE), and reaped additional airplay on BBC Radio 1 and Radio X, BBC 6 Music, Sirius XM, and BBC Introducing.
Venus Grrrls are supremely tuned into their Riot Grrrl influences, proven by a lyrical force to be reckoned with – as all great, rebellious bands begin. If we should enter a new era in modern rock, this band is on the frontlines.
Of ‘Liar Liar,’ the band’s lead singer and rhythm guitarist Grace Kelly (GK) says, “‘Liar Liar’ took some time to finish, both lyrically and instrumentally. The topic, often very personal and contextual, was something I wanted to make sure was adequately represented despite its vast nature. The idea was that the 'narrator' of the song has become aware of the dynamic of another relationship, and that it isn't necessarily a good dynamic. Spotting patterns of emotional manipulation and abuse, the narrator seeks not only to empower the victim but to let the perpetrator know that they've figured out what's happening despite the 'games.’”
With the song’s panic-struck instrumentals (compliments to the chef: lead guitarist Eliza Lee), the band maintains its riot status while still debuting a track ready for radio. Venus Grrrls have taken notes from history, with heavy, guitar-driven lines influenced by the greats of metal.

The production of the track is clean and clear, with frontwoman GK’s vocals singing through the chorus, in a dense tone, ‘The games you play to feed her pain / You take away all that she craves / Each word you say is a cliche.’
A hybrid of punk and hard rock, ‘Liar Liar’ is both presently self-aware of the story it highlights and simultaneously engaged with the female fury that initially resulted in Riot Grrrl rock.
