Groovy, sincere, and blissfully naive, Yenkee’s new single ‘Los Angelus’ is the musical personification of the idea of Los Angeles from someone who has never stepped foot in the place. A funky endeavour in modern pop, the track will please lovers of Rex Orange County, Still Woozy, and Mac Demarco with its easy synths and wooden guiro details.
‘Los Angelus’ follows on from Yenkee’s recent single ‘If Looks Could Kill’ released in April earlier this year and serves as the first single to be dropped from his upcoming debut album.
“Los Angelus and California, in my opinion, are the perfect words for a songwriter,” the singer explained. “They fit perfectly in the best places in your song. I always find myself reaching for them. I always find myself writing about California, even though I’ve never been, and that’s what the song is about.”
Yenkee also said a “semi-well-known American artist” once contacted him on Instagram looking to collaborate. “He sent me his number and said to hit him up if I was in LA in the coming weeks…I was working on the vegetable aisle in a supermarket in Cork”
Born and raised in Cork, Yenkee is a pop project formed from the lo-fi bedroom recordings of Graham Cooney. He started recording and producing his own music at the age of 15 using minimal equipment he bought with money he earned from busking.

Yenkee released his debut EP Adieu Adieu in 2015 under his own name, with Songs from When I Was 16 landing the following year. He has since released a handful of singles including 'Are You Alright', 'Lucy', 'Somethin' Stupid' and 'Drive'.
‘Los Angelus’ is released through Soft Boy Records, founded by Kojaque and Kean Kavanagh, off of Yenkee’s debut album which is pencilled for release in the autumn.
