SUPERIOR AMERICANA FROM SPANISH-IRISH OUTFIT
Fronted by one Garrett Wall, whose name will be familiar to many in this neck of the woods, this Madrid-based four-piece trades in rootsy acoustica with a distinct Latin flavour. With an instrumental line-up featuring guitars, ukuleles, banjo and sundry other percussion effects, it’s joyous stuff, with a good-timey sunshine vibe to it.
The sumptuous harmonies and toe-tapping rhythm on the whimsical title-track, ‘All Roads (Lead Me To Roam’), blends a McCartney-esque melody with gypsy-jazz – something Ronnie Lane & Slim Chance perfected in the early 1970s. ‘La Banda’ is closer in spirit and sound to the band’s current abode but the lovely country soul ballad, ‘Slow Start To A Long Day’, is a SoCal mix of The Flying Burrito Brothers and early Hall & Oates
Elsewhere, ‘Whoever The Fool’ veers towards Fleet Foxes/Crosby & Nash choral vocals while the gentle, slow burning ‘Early Late’ is more standard singer-songwriter fare. One for the John Creedon Show.
Key Track: 'All Roads (Lead Me To Roam)'
