Scottish rock band Travis will release the long-anticipated live recording of their 1999 Glastonbury performance along with an expanded edition of The Man Who on 21 June.
Scottish rock band Travis are set to drop two new releases this summer, Live at Glastonbury ’99 and an expanded edition of 1999’s The Man Who, to celebrate twenty years since the band’s initial breakthrough. The albums will be released on 21 June.
The long-awaited Live at Glastonbury ’99 will gather together 16 tracks from the band’s landmark performance at Glastonbury Festival. After their debut album, 1997’s Good Feeling, was met with moderate success, singer/songwriter Fran Healy, guitarist Andy Dunlop, drummer Neil Primrose, and bassist Dougie Paynemade a name for themselves with this smash hit performance just weeks after their second album, The Man Who, was released. Their show on the Other Stage, characterized by a sudden rainstorm during the song ‘Why Does It Always Rain On Me?,’ found coverage on mainstream TV networks and went down as one of the all-time top shows in 50 years of Glastonbury.
The live album includes such favorites as the band’s first UK Top-20 single, ‘More Than Us,’ ‘Driftwood,’ ‘Happy,’ and ‘Turn.’ Live at Glastonbury ’99 will be available on CD, as a two-LP set, and digitally. Also available on street date will be a blue vinyl edition, exclusive to select retailers worldwide.
Travis have also personally picked 19 B-sides that will be released on digital and CD reissues of The Man Who in order to commemorate the anniversary of the album. Additionally, a deluxe box set offers the expanded album on two CDs and two LPs, while the 12” x 12” lift-top box will also include a 58-page commemorative photobook.
The Man Who spent 11 weeks at Number One in the UK and sold 3.5 million copies worldwide. The release earned BRIT Awards for Best British Band and Best British Album, and ‘Why Does It Always Rain on Me?’ earned nods from the Ivor Novello Awards for Best Songwriter and Best Contemporary Song. Travis then spent the next 18 months on a 237-date world tour in 2000, including dates around the US alongside Oasis.

“We just enjoyed it—for as long as it lasted. We didn’t force it. We rode the roller coaster for as long as we could, but we didn’t hang on for dear life,” recalls frontman Fran Healy of the band’s success. “At the end of The Man Who, I was just totally energized…We didn’t take the chance to stop and smell the roses—we didn’t want to—we just kept going, right through [2001’s] The Invisible Band.”
The last two years have seen the group release their eighth album, Everything at Once, undertake another hefty world tour, and make a documentary film, Almost Fashionable. Said Healy of his fellow bandmates, “We’re like a couple who celebrate their 60th anniversary and they’re still in love. It’s all about the relationship. This is the marriage of four men—and it’s hard enough to keep two people interested, never mind four.”
The track listing for the new releases, out 21 June, can be seen below. In the meantime, listen to 'Why Does It Always Rain On Me? (Live at Glastonbury Festival / 1999)' here.
